HTML Email Conversion

Hello,

We are currently evaluating YouTrack and in our setup, there is a lot of e-mail communication going on. Issues are very often reported by email and have rich formatting - error report details are in tabular format, images are embedded in context of the message... Simply said - whatever you may expect from an email, it is there.

Issues created from emails are plain text, and with all formatting gone, they are unreadable.
If issue is entered manually, there is a lack of rich text editor, where one could simply copy-paste formatted text.

YouTrack does not seem to support HTML at all, which is too bad, but is there any way that users should handle such scenario?

If the original email would be attached (to allow viewing it later in HTML) to the issue upon issue-from-email creation, that would be a good short-term solution.

First of all I'd like to sorry for the delay.

Yes, you are right, YouTrack doesn't support HTML.
We had this option earlier YouTrack version, but it seemed not useful and rational.
We have a task http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/JT-6169 for adding html set inside the issue. As far as I can see, you've already found it.

Could you please clarify what difficulties have you met with attaching some files to reported issues? It works for the issues created with mailbox integration as well as for issues posted straight via YouTrack.

Imagine yourself receiving a couple dozen of different issue reports, all with HTML formatting. Such error report have HTML tables in them, A HREF hyperlinks, images are embedded in places (where they are embedded is important as well to maintain a proper context of the message).

Now, imagine you need you enter such issue into a tracker.
  • you have a rich formatted HTML table to handle
  • you have a few of links to handle (most of them inside the table)
  • you have a text with numerous embedded images

Plain impossible in YouTrack.

Now, if only the original email itself would be attached (to allow viewing it later in HTML) to the issue upon issue-from-email creation, that would be a good short-term solution. You would than open the attached HTML file and view the email in the format that it was sent.

Your troubles are understandable. So, that's why we decide to redesign html feature instead of ignoring markup problems. Except task about html in wiki markup supported, we've created and planned this one http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/JT-19023 . You are welcome to vote and leave comments as well.

Can you please re-visit http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/JT-19023 that has been closed? Unfortunately, it is still not working.

As stated in the issue, the fix will be available in bugfix release 5.0.1.
